The Graveyard Shift

February 2003

So called because I was working very late during this period so most of this set was done bleary eyed during the early morning hours. The result is a more leftfield mix and although it blends tracks from several distinct styles, it starts and ends with respectively, Insomnia and 7am Sessions which happened completely by chance but fits in nicely with the whole dusk 'til dawn idea.

A particular highlight whilst doing this mix was managing to bag an original copy of Joey Negro's first album Universe Of Love. I'd been trying to track this down for years (it's since been re-released by Z Records) and now out of nowhere, it appeared on Amazon.de. Great debut album and worth getting if you like more soulful house.

A special mention to the utterly hip Salon Kitty. I love the way this starts off in Gentle Nostalgic Easy Listening mode before cranking up the tempo with successive layers. By mid-track its reached a glorious full-on rave before the whole things quietens down again and ends back on a sweet note.
